As Regional Director of Producer Services for the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) Peter Houska is directly involved with U.S. pork producers in an effort to increase awareness of NPPC Programs and participation in the Strategic Investment Program primarily in Iowa. Peter also represents NPPC at various producer functions and promotes participation in the LEADR program.
Prior to joining NPPC, Peter was the plant manager for Great Plains Protein, an animal feed grade protein manufacturer. Before working at Great Plains Protein Peter spent 16 years engaged in production agriculture, owning and managing a family pork production and row crop business from 1989 to 2004. While working at his farm in Sac County, Peter was active in the county, state and national pork producer’s organizations. During those 16 years Peter also coached high school football for the Sac Community School district.
Houska grew up on a pork production farm in the Sac county area and remains involved with the family farming operation along with his children’s 4H livestock projects. In addition to his duties at NPPC, Pete currently serves as president of the Sac County Pork Producers and is on the Sac County ISU Extension Council. Peter received an AAS degree in Agricultural Business from Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, IA.
