Pork producers care deeply about the health and well-being of their animals and have a moral obligation to raise them humanely and compassionately. Healthy animals ensure safe food for consumers. NPPC advocates for science-based approaches to swine health and production and opposes efforts to dictate on-farm production practices.
Foreign Animal Disease
NPPC is actively working with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other partners to prevent and prepare for a potential outbreak of a foreign animal diseases (FADs).
NPPC advocates for a farm bill that preempts Prop. 12, fully funds the programs that safeguard the nation’s food supply against threats posed by foreign animal diseases, as well as key programs that expand foreign markets for U.S. ag products.
Given the growing threat from FADs to the U.S. swine industry, it is imperative that we review pre-harvest traceability. Improving our ability to efficiently and accurately identify and locate diseased animals will help control the spread of disease and reduce export markets impacts.
