Job Title: Director of State Policy
Reports to: VP Operations and State & National Relations
Position Overview: The Director of State Policy will execute and coordinate the NPPC state policy agenda in states of high political risk. This position will support the NPPC LEADR program including coordinating the relationship with investors that have completed the program. This position requires knowledge of NPPC policy positions, general organizational management, and program execution. This position may also work with producers, allied industry, and state organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships between NPPC members, other industry organizations and elected officials
- Implementation of grassroots campaigns and strategies to advance public policy goals while strengthening grassroots relationships
- Implement processes to bolster grassroots relationships including campaign events, advocacy media and intelligence sharing from lobbyists
- Work with the NPPC Communications team to develop training and resource materials for grassroots advocates
- Manage, communicate and coordinate NPPC state lobbyist contracts
- Build proactive campaigns to further NPPC policy efforts and protect producers freedom to operate
- Manage multiple targeted grassroots and action-alert campaigns in coordination with NPPC team members, state associations, and others.
- Assist when needed with NPPC’s PorkPAC
- Provide producer insight to fellow NPPC staffers
- Maintains grassroots database and fields data inquiries
- Attend and speak at producer and state organization meetings, state trade shows, and appropriate committee meetings
- Interface closely with NPPC Washington, DC issue managers on policy development that influences federal policy development initiatives
- Assist in identifying and engaging producer leaders to serve on NPPC and state organization committees and board of directors • Assist with state association policy development and advocacy as needed
- Assist with annual budget for area and commit association funds according to prescribed budget
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications: Requires a strong knowledge of program execution and planning; communications techniques and sales skills; the ability to motivate and influence different segments to a common purpose; strong oral and written and communication skills. Also, this requires utilization of advocacy software programs and digital strategies. An understanding of agriculture is also relevant. Needs to be able to work well with other people, be flexible and be open to change. Need good organizational skills and able to handle several projects at one time with the ability to make sound decisions, as job responsibilities require. Furthermore, the individual must possess strong self-motivation and execution with limited oversight. Must possess the ability to coordinate and plan multiple meetings and projects simultaneously.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in advocacy outreach, recruiting and cultivating grassroots and advocacy initiatives
- Strong communications and political messaging experience
Travel: Requires extensive travel (50%). Must have a valid driver’s license and passport.
Education and/or Experience: Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from a four-year College or University. Preference for Business Administration, Marketing, Political Science, Animal Science, Agriculture Business, or related applicable degree.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Requires light physical effort such as stooping and bending, and occasional lifting of lightweight objects (up to 25 pounds).
