Title of Position: Manager of Marketing and Digital Communications*

 

Supervisor’s Title: Assistant Vice President of Marketing & Communications

 

Summary: The Manager/Director of Marketing and Digital Communications is an integral part of the National Pork Producers Council’s (NPPC) communications team in developing and executing programs that support the organization’s strategic objectives and long-term vision.

 

The Manager/Director works closely with NPPC’s AVP of Marketing and Communications to create and launch integrated advocacy and programmatic campaigns to tell the story about the pork industry and its policy priorities to various stakeholders, including the media, investors/members, policymakers, and others. The Manager/Director is responsible for managing NPPC communications channels, including websites, social media, newsletters, and email marketing platforms. This is not a registered lobbyist position.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Recommend and support the execution of targeted digital communications strategies (including paid programs) to support NPPC’s public policy, advocacy, and marketing objectives.
  • Contribute to the drafting and editing of communications materials, including social media and website posts, press materials, presentations, newsletters and other digital content as needed.
  • Manage NPPC’s editorial calendar to track and schedule NPPC content across all its communications channels.
  • Support NPPC’s earned media program, including fielding/scheduling interview requests, and maintaining NPPC’s media list.
  • Work cross-functionally across all NPPC departments (in Washington, DC and in Iowa) to ensure staff are kept informed and have access to communications materials.
  • Engage with NPPC issue managers to ensure issue area talking points and position papers on science and technology, trade, economic and production, environmental, litigation, and other issues are current and updated across all communication platforms.
  • Assist with providing communications support to NPPC’s state association affiliates.
  • As needed, serve as NPPC’s in-house photographer, capturing content for internal and external use.
  • Interface with other organizations on communications issues at the national and state levels.
  • Manage communications interns.
  • Take on other assignments and projects outside of the primary issue area as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications:

  • A solid background in all digital forms of communication and an ability to apply this expertise to broader, integrated communications campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations.
  • A creative thinker and problem solver.
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced environment and an ability to manage multiple assignments at once across NPPC’s full range of public policy initiatives.
  • An ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, team-oriented work environment with NPPC members and staff.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • An understanding of legislative and political processes.
  • Highly organized and able to function effectively under high pressure.

 

Education and/or Experience: A bachelor’s degree is required in communications or similar field. Strong data analysis and computing skills are required.

 

Travel: Requires some travel. Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.

 

Location: The position is based Washington, D.C. or Des Moines, Iowa.
