Summary: The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) serves as the global voice for the U.S. pork industry, advocating on behalf of 60,000 American pork producers. NPPC engages with legislators, regulators, and industry partners to support policies that promote the social, environmental, and economic sustainability of U.S. pork producers while expanding access to global markets.
The NPPC government affairs internship program offers a unique opportunity for passionate, young professionals to gain hands-on experience in public policy, trade, international relations, economics and advocacy. As an intern, the selected candidate will collaborate with NPPC’s policy experts, government officials and industry stakeholders to help shape and advocate for national and international policies essential to the viability of the U.S. pork industry.
For students looking to build a career in public policy, international trade or agricultural advocacy, this internship is an excellent opportunity to develop the skills and network needed to influence policy at both the national and international levels.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and monitor legislative, regulatory, and international trade issues
- Compile and distribute daily news clips regarding agricultural and trade topics
- Assist in drafting policy briefs, position papers, and other advocacy materials
- Attend and report on Congressional hearings, policy meetings, and industry briefings
- Participate in meetings with lawmakers, government agencies, and industry stakeholders
- Support the NPPC Washington team efforts with policy and trade projects
Qualifications:
- College-aged students pursing a major in political science, agriculture, international trade, economics, or other relevant fields
- A highly self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interests in public policy, agriculture, and international trade
- Exceptional research, writing, and communication skills
- Enthusiastic and eager to learn about the U.S. pork industry and international markets
Start and End Dates:
- Summer 2025: Full-time internship from May to August
Location: The internship is based at NPPC’s Washington, DC public policy office, with potential travel to the Urbandale, IA headquarters office.
