Russ grew up in Howells, Nebraska and began feeding pigs in the 1980’s on his parents’ farm.
In 1994, Russ returned to his family operation. He was employed by the feed operation and managed the swine expansion and construction of swine facilities, building 52,000 finishing spaces from 1994 to 2008.
In addition to serving on the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) Board of Directors and representing producers on various national committees, Russ chairs the NPPC Budget Committee and has been active in the Nebraska Pork Producers Association as President, Nebraska Cattlemen, Nebraska Farm Bureau, Nebraska Corn Checkoff, Nebraska Soybean Checkoff and the Ag Leaders Working Group (all commodities based in Nebraska legislatively working together).
His local involvement includes Christians Encounter Christ, Knights of Columbus, Northeast Community College Nexus program, and The University of Nebraska External Advisory Board.
Russ holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
Russ and his wife Tammi reside near Arlington Nebraska and have two daughters. Shaelyn, a graduate of the University of Georgia, is a Landscape Architect in Denver Colorado. Greta works for Methodist Women’s Hospital as an Ultrasound Technician.
