Immigration Reform

What’s the Background?

There are an estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. Congressional proposals to address immigration issues include improved border security and a temporary worker visa program.

Why Does It Matter to Our Producers?

To be competitive, the U.S. pork industry needs a viable agricultural workforce, including permanent immigrant workers for pork production.

What is NPPC’s Position?

Any immigration reform legislation should recognize the unique needs of the agricultural sector. NPPC supports legislation that secures the country’s borders in a way that is fair, allows access to a legal workforce but does not place an undue burden on employers, and presents a “common sense” solution for the undocumented workers already in the United States.
