Direct Action Everywhere (DxE), a Berkeley, Calif.-based group that works for “total animal liberation” and “species equality,” this Friday is set to protest at The Spotted Pig, a New York City restaurant that “celebrates all things pork.”

As part of its demonstration, members will take to Twitter, using the hashtags HumanePorkIsALie and ItsNotFoodItsViolence. HOTH suggests a polite reply: #PutBaconOnIt!

DxE has conducted a number of high-profile actions since its 2013 founding, including disruptions of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign rallies and, ironically, “die-ins” at Chipotle restaurants over what the group calls “humane washing.” Chipotle produced a video disparaging conventionally raised meat and poultry and claiming its ingredients were raised humanely and sustainably. That, says DxE, is merely a marketing campaign “to disguise killing animals for meat as something other than what it is—violence.” The group even has “rescued” laying hens from cage-free farms.

See, it’s not about the types of production systems used, it’s about the fact that the vast majority of us like to eat meat. And that is against DxE’s guiding principle: “We are animals, and we believe that every animal (human or non-human) has an equal right to be safe, happy, and free.”

These people are nuts (not a professional clinical diagnosis), and while they claim to be non-violent, they have no problem trespassing on private property, breaking into barns — exposing animals to disease — and disrupting businesses, even baseball games. And the name, itself, is a philosophical component of anarchism, and many anarchists are vegetarian or vegan (“veganarchists”) and have responded — including violently — to perceived injustices against animals. (Like DxE, “total animal liberation” also is the goal of the Animal Liberation Front, a group classified by the FBI as a domestic terrorist organization that “engages in direct action in pursuit of animal rights.”)

Do a search of Direct Action Everywhere and see the cast of crazies associated with this group, and take a look here and here at some of the criticisms from its radical comrades.

Well, HOTH has a remedy for all that internal strife: #PutBaconOnIt!
